  • One of Nigeria’s representatives at the 13th Edition of the African Games held in Accra, Ghana, between 8th and 23rd March, 2024 and Silver medalist, Favour Agboro has expressed his appreciation and admiration for the President of the Nigeria Weightlifting Federation, Dr. Ibrahim Abdul for his supporting towards a successful outting.

    While speaking to vcsports.sport.blog in an exclusive interview, he said that Dr. Abdul together with the Honourable Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Enoh made sure all allowances were paid to the athletes while in Ghana.

    “We thank God for the effort of our federation and the Hon. Min. for his support even though our bonuses are being delayed but the competition went well.

    “Our allowance was really a surprise. They paid our allowance in Ghana and everybody was smiling but the preparation to the competition was a bit poor. In a federation like ours, the president is just like a father to us because he has been the one sponsoring the athletes that are going for Olympic qualifiers.”

    Favour, who had previously represented Nigeria in the 2017 Junior Championship in Uganda where he won 3 Silver medals and 2018 Commonwealth Games in Australia, won 1 Bronze and 2 Silver medals in the 61kg category at the African Games.

  • Enyimba midfielder, James Oronsaye has expressed disappointment over his side’s exit from this year’s President FA Cup after they suffered a shocking 1- 0 defeat to NNL side, Sokoto United in their Round of 16 fixture. The game saw the People’s Elephant lose two penalties in regulation time.

  • Nigeria National League and Akwa Ibom state based football club vandrezzer FC midfielder, Joseph Chibueze has debunk the rumour making the rounds that his team will quit the NNL come the 2024/2025 season due to financial concerns.

    The former Sir Monty FC player disclosed this to vcsports .sport .blog that they were mere propaganda.
    He also stated that the team escaped relegation during the just concluded 2023/2024 NNL season and promised to do everything it takes to make it to the NPFL next season.

    Speaking about salaries of the players, he noted that players are paid as at when due and that both the management and players are happy.

    Chibueze is looking forward to the new season as he pledged his loyalty and commitment to the club.

  • Bendel Insurance Football Club of Benin captain and Super Eagles goalkeeper, Amas Obasogie has expressed his team’s readiness ahead of today’s President Federation Cup tie against Wikki Tourist of Bauchi.

    He made this known in an exclusive interview with vcsports.sport.blog last night, where he stated that the team was prepared to defend the title they won last season as they are well motivated by the Edo state government.

    He added that, while their opponents are no pushovers, his side is not under pressure going into the game with the coach Monday Odigie putting them in the right frame of mind to get the win.

    The Benin Arsenal are currently 8th on the log after MatchWeek 32 of the ongoing Nigeria Premier Football League season.

    Obasogie led his side to the 2023 CAF Confederation Cup Preliminary Round, losing 3-2 on aggregate to RS Barkane of Morocco to exit the competition.

    All eyes will be on today’s Round of 32 clash as they hope to return to the Continent. The game is slated for 4:00 PM, at the Area 3 Playground, Abuja.

  • The Nigeria Football Supporters Club (NFSC), on Wednesday, decorated Sen. Anthony Ogungbemi Adefuye as one of its Patrons in his Lekki Peninsula residence in Lagos.

    The ceremony was conducted by the club’s national chairman Revered Samuel Ikpea who hailed Adefuye’s passion for sports and his contribution towards the growth of football in the state.

    In his acceptance speech, he thanked every member of the club and assured them of his support. He added that even though he represented the country in sprinting and swimming, he supports the Nigeria Football Federation and all the national teams.

    He concluded that the NFF must invest in football and get a good coach if the Super Eagles will win next year’s AFCON in Cote D’Ivoire.

    Adefuye served as senator representing Lagos East Senatorial District in the third republic.

    The 2021 Nigeria Premier Football League Champions Akwa United continued their quest for their first league victory of the ongoing season in a matchweek five clash played at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City, the Edo.state capital.

    The Promise Keepers went into this weekend clash with a goalless draw against Shooting Stars Football Club of Ibadan, last week.
    The result means that the Akwa Ibom side have now picked up.three points from possible fifteen, leaving them bottom on the log

    However, gaffer of the side Fatai Osho believes the team can turn things around as it’s still early days in the league

    Meanwhile,  center back Oshomo.Olamilekan has come out to.praise the management and technical crew for their support to.the team during the difficult time, assuring that he will always give his best to the team.

    Plateau United central defender Christopher Nwaeze has expressed hope of helping his team get all three points when they host Sunshine Stars in their Nigeria Premier Football League Match-week four tie on Sunday.


    The former Akwa United player said this in an exclusive interview with vcsports.sport.blog on Friday afternoon. He said the team had put behind them the 1-0 defeat they suffered away at Bendel Insurance last weekend , and will do everything to ensure they get the win in their next game.

    “We don’t need a draw. I will do everything within my power to help the team win.


    “Against Bendel Insurance, we went all out to win the game but it didn’t turn out as expected, but our fans should come out on Sunday to support us against Sunshine Stars because we will win for them”,  he added.

    Nwaeze was a member of the home based Eagles that failed to qualify for the 2023 African Nations Championship after losing via penalties to the Black Galaxies of Ghana.

    Plateau United are 17th on the table with three points from three games.

    Technical Adviser of Akwa Ibom based Football Club Akwa United, Fattai Osho has reiterated the need for his side to bounce back after a dreadful start to the 2023/2024 Nigeria Premier Football League Season.


    Osho gave the charge shortly after his team’s training session on Thursday evening. The former Enyimba and Rivers United gaffer also expressed his confidence In the team despite his boy’s  poor run.


    The Promise Keepers are bottom on the log with one point after three games. However, Osho is not worried and believes his side can start picking up points from this weekend clash as they host Shooting Stars Sports Club Of Ibadan at the 18,000 sitter capacity stadium in Eket, before going on to face Insurance FC Of Benin next weekend at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium In Benin City.


    Centre half Oshomo Olamilekan will take no part in this weekend clash due to tactical twist from the gaffer but will be available for selection next weekend against the Benin Arsrnal.

  • Akwa United center back Oshomo Olamilekan has urged the fans not to relent in their commitment to the club after experiencing a terrible start to the season.

    The Ondo-born defender made this known to vcsports.sport.blog on Sunday, after his side’s 3-2 defeat to last season’s champions Enyimba Football Club of Aba at the Enyimba International Stadium.

    The defeat was the second of the Promise Keepers’ opening three fixtures, leaving the Akwa Ibom based side bottom on the log with a single point from possible nine.

    However, the former MFM and Crown FC man believes the team can bounce back in their next game as they will be welcoming Shooting Stars Sport Club of Ibadan in a mouth-watering clash at the Eket Stadium.

  • Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike has rewarded Rivers United for winning the 2021/2022 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).

    Wike, who hosted the team and officials to a grand reception inside the government house, Port Harcourt at about 10:00 a.m today, announced a cash reward of $20.000 each for members of the team and a 2-week training tour in Madrid, in preparation for the CAF Champions League and the 2022/2023 NPFL season. He also conferred on members of the team the Governor Merit Service Award.

    Rivers United won the league for the first time in their history with 77 points from 38 games and qualified for the CAF Champions Leagues.
