    Over five million naira and consolation prizes will be up for grabs for participants at the 21.1kilometers Ibom Marathon Race scheduled for this December.

    The winner of the male category will bag ₦1.5m, first runner up ₦1, second runner up ₦750k. While the winner of the female category will earn ₦1M, first runner up ₦750k and second runner up ₦500k.

  • Convener of the Ibom Marathon Race, Abraham Ekufre says the deadline for registration of the annual race has been moved to November 31st 2021.

    Speaking to reporters, Ekufre said the response from participants, sponsors and potential sponsors has been very encouraging and explained that the deadline for registration was shifted to allow more persons who have indicated interest and plan to participate register.

    He added that the race was for all and insists it will meet up with global standards and properly reward participants.

    This was revealed by Convener of the race Abraham Ekufre to newsmen in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, he said this is the first edition and maintained that the colourful race will be held yearly, meet up with global standards and reward participants.

  • Warri Wolves Appoint Elechi As New Head Coach

    Warri Wolves have announced the appointment of Ngozi Elechi as their new head coach

    The appointment of Elechi was made public on Thursday by a top official of Warri Wolves who added the new coach will be unveiled next weekend.

    The “Former coach of Go Round FC and Yobe Desert Stars, Ngozi Elechi, has joined Warri Wolves as the clubs new technical adviser,” Azuka Chiemeka, an official of Warri Wolves stated.

    The onetime Jigawa Golden Stars midfield maestro is taking over from Kester Ojo, who guided the Delta State government-owned team from the Nigeria National League (NNL) back to the NPFL.

    Warri Wolves were relegated from the elite league in 2016 but they sealed their comeback with a victory over Dynamite FC in the recent NNL play-offs.

    He will look to prove his critics wrong as he takes over at the Warri side because his stints at the last two teams he handled, Go Round FC and Yobe Desert Stars proved quite challenging.

    He led Go Round from the NNL to the NPFL, but was disengaged as the Omoku side found life in the top league very tasking and finally got relegated under his successor, Willy Udube. His rescue mission at struggling Yobe Stars did not go well as the club was also relegated.

    The chairperson of the women committee in the Nigeria Mixed Martial Arts Federation, Loveth Young says she is thankful to God and her team after her victory over United States Kelly ‘Wild Fire’ D’Angelo in Legacy Fight Alliance, LFA 97.

    Young ‘The Nigerian Terminator’ beat D’Angelo by technical knockout in round two of her fifth professional fight in the straw weight division on Friday night to improve her record to three wins, one draw and a defeat.

    Speaking after the match, Young who started kickboxing and boxing 2005 in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, thanked her entire team, fans and gave all the glory to God. 

    The win follows her impressive first round technical knockout victory over Reena Norville in October, 2020 at LFA94 in the United States.

  • The Nigeria mixed martial arts federation, NMMAF through the Dynamite Fighting Championship, DFC Africa MMA has finalized plans to hold a fight night in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

    The event which is scheduled for the 26th of December, 2020 in collaboration with Eddiz Wine Bar will feature mixed martial artist registered with DFC Africa.

    Confirming the event, President of the Federation Ambassador Henry George explained that the contest is aimed at entertaining mixed martial arts faithfuls and will round off the year 2020.

    He explained, “Yes, DFC Africa, we are having an event in Port Harcourt, in collaboration with Eddiz Wine Bar this Christmas, starting on the 19th then on the 26th which is Boxing Day, DFC is going to put up a fight. It is going to be a fight in Port Harcourt,  so there is going to be joy in Mixed Martial following this event.”

    Ambassador George who over the weekend received an award from News and Media Company Dez Mayorz as Sports Personality of the year, 2020, said the federation will meet next week to set up its calendar for next year while describing the award as thing of joy.

    “We are meeting next weekend to finalize plans for next year, you know we are also looking at the international calendar so that it will not affect our national arrangements. To us it is a thing of joy because martial arts is beginning to gain prominence and recognition, looking at what is happening around the world in mixed martial arts in Nigerians making impact so back here at home too the awareness has grown,  no wonder I was nominated and also came out winner of the category.”

    The NMMAF Boss emerged winner of the Sports Personality of the year, 2020, beating competition from Super Eagles and Leicester City Defensive Midfielder Wilfred Ndidi and Professional Bodybuilder, fitness model Ifesinachi Friday.

  • Chelsea Forward Ike Ugbo Snubbed England For Nigeria

    Former England under 17, and under 20 international Ike Ugbo has stated his allegiance to Nigeria after denouncing his chances to play for the three lions .

    Ugbo who is 22 years of age was born and brought up in south London recognized his Nigerian roots

    the chelsea young striker, is currently on loan at Belgian Pro League club Cercle Brugge and has represented England at various youth levels

    Ugbo also scored once in three appearances as England’s U-20 side won the Toulon Tournament in June 2017.

    He is now working towards acquiring clearance from the Federation of International Football Association (FIFA).

    The former Roda player has scored 10 goals in 16 league appearances for Cercle Brugge this season.

  • The President of Nigeria Mixed Martial Arts Federation, NMMAF, Ambassador Henry George has charged the newly-elected executive council of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, SWAN Rivers State Chapter to take the Association to greater heights. 
    Speaking to Nigeria Mixed Martial Arts Federation Media, George said the Association under the leadership of seasoned journalist Udede Jim-Opiki, must strive to do better in all aspects and inculcate combat Sports in its programs. 

    We want to say congratulations to the new executives, the executives should have in mind that we have entrusted them the task of taking  the association to greater heights. 
    He added, “from our own end combat sports, we want to see them look more at combat sports news because a lot is happening in the world of combat sports. It is a new start for Swan Rivers State Chapter, on behalf of the Nigeria Mix Martial Arts Federation, I want to say congratulations to the newly-elected Swan Chairman and his exco, congratulations.

     
    Other officers elected were Sarah David as Vice Chairman, Chukweudi Ejimofor, General Secretary, Wokoma-Solomon Innocent Treasurer and Barth Ndubuwah, emerged Financial Secretary.
